I recently received the following Hotmail request in my email asking me to provide personal information or else my account will be discontinued. The email itself is listed at the end of this brief article.

For years  I always believed that outfits like Hotmail would not blatanly request such information no matter what the conditions.

Please let me know if you have received a similar request in your hotmail in box and what you intend to do to rectify this situation. For myself I am going to delete the email and treat it as a bogus request.

The poor use of the English language, faulty syntax and a few other give away clues forces me to suspect a non english speaking person(s) are perpetrating this fraud.

By this, I mean that the agency never sends notices of action to taxpayers by email. Everything is sent by snail mail with most of the notices automatically being kicked out by a computer. If you ever get an email from the IRS, you can usually assume it is a fake. If you have any doubts as to its legitimacy, you can just pick up the phone and call the IRS to ask if youve been sent anything.

The new IRS email scam plays on the fear taxpayers have of the agency. Dont be a sucker. Ignore it and dont reward such conduct.
